About Holy Nativity
ABOUT OUR CHURCH
Nestled in the peaceful West Los Angeles suburb of Westchester at 83rd and Dunbarton, Holy Nativity Episcopal Church is a unique and diverse Christian community that offers an enriching, passionate, and dynamic approach to worship and community life.
Holy Nativity Episcopal Church was established during World War II as a place for the burgeoning neighborhood to gather on Sundays for family worship. Now some 60 years later, Holy Nativity has evolved into a strong and caring community of people who come together not only to worship on Sundays but to celebrate and share their traditional, progressive, and unique spiritual paths and journeys.
With its roots in the past, service in the present, and eye to the future, Holy Nativity is truly a church for the 21st century.
Holy Nativity provides an expanding menu of activities available to both parishioners and the community at large. These enriching and educational programs include environmental activism, a community garden, a yoga and wellness center, a meditation center, musical concerts, cooking classes, art exhibits, and so much more.
ABOUT OUR RECTOR
A California native, Peter is a graduate of Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena. While managing accounts for a large Wall Street investment firm, he helped set up the Harambee Christian Family Center in Northwest Pasadena with The Reverend Dr. John Perkins and began to sense a call to ordained ministry.
Peter attended the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas, and was ordained in 1994. After serving on the staff of the Diocese of Los Angeles as chaplain to The Right Reverend Frederick Borsch, Peter was called to Holy Nativity in 2002.
He remains guided by social activism in peace and justice causes and continues to be engaged in and enriched by dialogue with those of other faiths. He is a board member of The Guibord Center-Religion Inside Out, where he recently filmed a video discussing his perspectives on Fasting. Father Peter is a certified Sivananda yoga teacher.
Through his teachings, generosity, and warmth and his commitment to the faith, he has brought Holy Nativity into a forceful position in the community.
Peter’s hobbies include gardening, cooking, reading, yoga, and running.
