The Community Garden at Holy Nativity Church hopes to provide a model
for homeowners, apartment complexes, churches, schools, organizations
and businesses to get involved in turning underused and overwatered patches
of lawn in our community into productive and beautiful spaces, growing organic food crops
to feed the needy.
We welcome and encourage participation from individuals, families, groups of friends, neighbors or co-workers, and local businesses.
The garden growing space is divided into 35 beds containing vegetables, herbs, and flowers to attract
pollinators and discourage unwanted pests. The food will be grown organically, with pest control handled by natural methods only.
The year is divided into two six-month growing seasons. The
Spring/Summer season begins in April and ends with a Harvest Celebration
at the end of September. The Fall/Winter season begins in October and
ends with a Harvest Celebration in March. Ten percent of the food grown
in the garden will be shared among the participants - those who care for
and tend the crops and those who sponsor portions of the Garden. The
rest of the produce will be given to the LAX Food Pantry to stock their
shelves with fresh produce for needy families.
The Church of the Holy Nativity serves the communities of Playa Del Rey,
Marina del Rey, LAX, Westchester
and also serves the Westside and South Bay areas of Los Angeles.
