We include in our church life an active involvement in and commitment to music
and the arts.
OUR CHOIR:
Our choir participates every Sunday, raising their voices in praise. Our choir
director brings innovative arrangements of songs that range from the beloved
standards to gospel. Our accompanist, Rose Chen, joined us in 2008 and adds an
additional professional and creative dimension to our Sunday service
music. Rose has her own group, the
Blue Rose Trio, and you may find out more about her on her own web
site. The choir meets monthly for fellowship and practice.
JAZZ VESPERS:
Once a month, we present Jazz Vespers, a night of prayer, readings, and great
jazz.
Our new Music Guild is making it possible to offer a wider variety of top
musical events. Our series hosts top musical performances from classical to
jazz, featuring cellists, brass, woodwinds, guitarists, and vocalists.
DRUM WORKSHOP:
Once a month, we gather for the Drum Workshop, an afternoon of heartfelt rhythms
under the masterful direction of Joselyn Wilkinson, founder and leader of Adaawe,
a top women’s percussion troupe. The sessions attract music lovers and
free-spirited worshippers alike.
ART EXHIBITS:
We transform our community hall at various times into a space for art exhibits
-- wine and cheese included.
POETRY AND WRITING SESSIONS:
We feature guest experts who teach poetry or lecture on religious topics. An
English professor from Loyola-Marymount University comes in to conduct writing
sessions. |
