C Beds
Our C beds are the place to visit in the garden right now as you will find something edible ripening in just about every bed.
Guarded by one of our ever-present scarecrows, the varieties of squash plants are abundantly productive, with their fruit seeming to double in size overnight. These are heat-loving plants, and while they are easy to grow (great for kids who want to see quick results of their garden labors) they can also be challenging for gardeners who water late in the day and leave their leaves wet overnight. We are learning to water the soil, not the leaves, with these beds. In this picture of bed C5 in the foreground we can see squash and cucumbers along with Anasazi Bean plants. Anasazi beans are an heirloom variety dry bean.
